Blank faces on a grey sky,
no-one smiles as they’re walking by.
This cold age of worry and fear
pulls people apart when they should be near.
The crying child left alone in her room,
she’s cold and scared and drowning in gloom.
The light in the dark fades slowly away
as our concrete world forgets one more day.
The elderly man clutches a shawl
as the thought of his wife brings a smile to his face,
for so many years he’s seen no-one at all,
he longs for someone,
for just one embrace.
The world is apart
alone in disgrace
when will it end,
these cold and dark days?
